Feudalism and Cronyism in Machiavelli’s Italy
In contrast to the state corporatism operating in his day and our own, Machiavelli asserts that civil society can best flourish in the absence of government intrusion, and states that the common utility of a free state is “the possibility of enjoying what one has, freely and without incurring suspicion.”
